Twenty teams composed of over 100 participant players came together to play in the 2nd WLIC Youth Charity Cup Football Tournament on 4th July 2010 at Hayes Goals, in support of the fundraising efforts for the new WLIC redevelopment project.
Organised by the WLIC fundraising committee the 5-a-side football tournament brought together diverse teams from as far as Luton and Croydon of varying age and skill levels, who no doubt inspired by the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa, helped put on a competitive and entertaining display of the beautiful game, all in a fair and fun brotherly spirit.
The final of the tournament was contested between Real Madras vs. Henley Homes A-Team, of which after a close encounter the latter were victorious 2-1. The A-team generously donated the cup trophy back to the West London Islamic Centre and it will be displayed in the Masjid trophy cabinet.
WLIC’s own Imam Inayatullah presented the finalists with their respective medals after WLIC madrassa teacher and khateeb Inam ul-Haq gave a short reminder about the virtues of individual striving for team causes to achieve shared visions and goals. Project organizer Br Sharif Abdulle said the months of preparation had been worth it and that by the Grace of Allah (swt) over £2000 had been raised for the WLIC redevelopment.
The WLIC Football tournament was gratefully sponsored by several organisations including Big Ben Fisheries, Aleaf Windows, UPS and Care Dental. The fundraising team would like to thank all sponsors and participants.
